one Flew out of the cuckoo's nest

Famous atheist philosopher now concedes the existence of God
Antony Flew conceded that many of his philosophical followers will be shocked by his announcement. But he told Associated Press: "My whole life has been guided by the principle of Plato's Socrates: Follow the evidence, wherever it leads."

Tertius predicts that many of Flew's "philosophical followers", especially among that coterie of perpetually adolescent males who make up the vast bulk of the self-styled gang of "internet infidels", will now turn on Flew with a vengeance claiming "He was NEVER a real atheist!" Following the evidence where it leads has never been a strong point among such "rationalists" and "free-thinkers" - who exhibit all the irrationalism, prejudice, blind belief, and group think they are always so quick to ascribe to their theistic opponents.

The spin has already begun on atheist websites where some are quick to claim that, well anyway, Flew doesn't believe in "the Bible God", but only in a "non-interfering" deistic "Jeffersonian", "Aristotlean" sort of God, so there!

Of course, it's a strange way to defend atheism to invoke a deistic grand designer of any kind. But for those few Flew fans who can't bring themselves now write him off as an aged and probably senile dodderer who has lost his way (as many of the more ruthless and ideologically driven atheists will have no qualms about doing), AT LEAST he doesn't "believe" in the God of the Bible or of the cursed Christians. And hating Christians is what atheism is really all about...
