The Devil and Ms Jones

I'd like to acknowledge the very profound and refreshingly clearsighted, though deeply personal insights of A. S. A. Jones whose site is found here at ex-atheist.com. Ms Jones' is a wonderful debater, displaying devastating logic and persuasive argumentation, all within a framework of the greatest courtesy and respect to her opponents. This in itself is a breath of fresh air in an arena that is usually seriously overheated and overwrought. Even when self-appointed Internet Infidels attempt to do their usual number on a theist by heaping scorn, ridicule, abuse and parody on Jones her genuinely conciliatory nature shines through in a way that speaks louder than words... and bombs. Not that her words aren't explosive in the force with which she presents her reasoned arguments, it is just that she has no need of the usual ad hominems that so often marr discourse in this area.

No better example of Ms Jones' skill and decency in dealing with atheists can be found than this thread Learning To Think Spiritually over at the Theology Web site. Jones demolishes the arguments and pretensions of several atheist hit men including one or two of the loudest atheist voices on the Net, while never once getting her hair mussed. She even manages to put a fellow Christian who steps out of line in his place.

Militant atheism is largely a male thing, atheism itself being largely a male obsession; the obsessees are usually a particular kind of male who invariably exhibit a strong infatuation for what Jacques Ellul describes as "La Technique". Now, if it be thought that I am stereotyping atheists, I humbly demur. All the evidence I have seen over many years backs up these assertions, just as much as the observation that the majority of Christian apologists are also males. On discoveringy that A.S. A. Jones, the ex-atheist, was female I was genuinely surprised and genuinely pleased. She brings a fresh and powerful perspective to discussion of the most important and far-reaching issues that confront us all as human beings. The bully boys may rant and rave, howl and curse but truth, even when spoken softly, will ultimately tear down all the strongholds of idolatrous pretension.
